These became a set, though not intended.
Yarn: Cascade 220
Needles: 4 & 4,5 mm
FO #1, a cardigan for my son:
I bought these yarns with Tomten in my mind, but wanted to try something else after all. I didn’t have any masterplan, so I started from the sleeves and really had fun and played with the colors. First, there’s some honeycomb pattern, after that some plain stockinette and above that, traditional colorwork from an estonian mitten book “Kihnu Roosi Kindakirjad”. This was the first time I tried i-cord buttonband and fell in love with it, nice to make and looks so neat.
Fo #2, double mittens. I used Ann Budd’s Book “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns” and it’s handy indeed. I was not in a mood of thinking about stitch counts, so I took the gauge and right size and just knit away. Only modification was the knitting order – after thumb gusset, I first finished the thumb and after that the rest of the mitten.
I asked my boy whether he wants me to put a hedgehog or a car on the mitten and he wanted a car (of course). And it had to be Volkswagen, because he loves the logo. I’m no good at drawing cars, so I googled VW Beetle pics, resized them and printed out. Then I cut them out of the paper and used as a guide.
